Product Description
The photograph on this shirt is taken from a real event that shook the world. The picture is known as "The Picture of the Unknown Rebel," which was taken in Beijing, China in 1989. Tiananmen Square was the place where Chinese students demonstrated for freedom from tyranny. The world watched as high school and college students stood firmly by their convictions, defying government orders to leave and forcing military tanks to stop in their tracks. Despite these threats, The students chose not to leave, and as soon as night fell the People's Liberation Army killed the protesters crushing thousands beneath their armed machines.
What did they die for? They died for an idea. The idea of freedom. Freedom is the idea that every human is created equal and has certain rights given to them by their Creator. These students were willing to die for this idea. Throughout history many noble men and women have died for the same reason. But freedom isn't anything more than an idea is it? Most of the things that we value such as honesty, integrity, fairness, justice, and friendship are ideas worth living for.
At the same time, many things that we hate are just really bad ideas.
Pornography is the idea that it is a legitimate business for a woman to be exploited and abused in front of a camera for a person's sexual enjoyment. Slavery is the idea that one person can own another person as if they were a piece of property. Abortion is the idea that a woman has the right to destroy another person inside her because it is an inconvenience, not a child. These are just three of the many terrible ideas that people have come up with that have destroyed billions of peoples' lives over the years. Ideas have huge consequences when they are put into action.
At one point in American History it was perfectly legal to own a slave. It took a lot to get people to think differently about the subject of slavery, but people do think about it differently today. Slavery is fundamentally a bad idea. One day we will look back at our nation in disgust at the fact that we legally killed 50+ million babies in sterile clinics, just like we look back at the fact that we took part in the slave trade. But just like slavery, abortion will not end unless people will take a bold stand against it. If it is ever going to end we are going to have to change the way people think about it.
This shirt is not for the average Joe. It's for those who truly believe that God has given them what it takes to change the world.
If we are ever going to change the world we have to go to war with some of the bad ideas of our time. As Newt Gingrich put it so
well: "On the battlefield of ideas winning requires moving toward the sound of the guns." Just like the "Unknown Rebel" we are going to need to engage the machine of our time if we are ever going to bring about change.
I challenge you to ask yourself what ideas you would be willing to stand in front of tanks for? What truths would you take bullets for? It's an important question. We as a company are not demanding that you need to become a martyr of the faith. However, we are asking you to risk your own personal reputation as you fight with us in this war of ideas.
