I remember learning about spiritual armor in Sunday school. It seemed odd to me that anyone would actually put on armor. I mean, what was it for? I imagined everyone putting on helmets and shoulder pads and coming to church. It just seemed silly.

The reason the that Paul tells Christians to put on armor is because we are at war! Paul wrote to the Ephesians, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (6:12) Once a Christian understands that they are at war and that it is necessary for them to engage in battle to win, they will do just that. Part of the armor that Paul urges us to carry is a sword. In fact, the sword is the only offensive weapon in the armor of God. It is made to crush, maim, and kill the enemy. Who is the enemy? Well, the enemy is not of flesh and blood; it is not a human enemy, it is a spiritual one. As we advance forward our enemy must retreat or die.

So what should you do? Put on the armor of God and advance the kingdom. Be offensive! Bring light to every place there is no light. Bring love to places where there is no love. Change the bad philosophies that destroy peoples lives. Share the message of the cross with everyone that you know. Don't ever be ashamed of your faith.

This hat will remind you that you are in a battle. Put it on with the armor of God.
